On the opening day of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Turner Prize-winning artist Martin Creed will create Work No. 1197: All the bells in a country rung as quickly and as loudly as possible for three minutes throughout the country as the UK welcomes 205 nations from around the world.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) has begun making conditional offers to inspiring people in the West Midlands to carry the Olympic Flame next summer during the 70 day Olympic Torch Relay
On 22 November 2011 the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) unveiled the designs of the Games Maker uniform that will be worn by around 70,000 volunteers and 6,000 LOCOG staff and the Technical Officials uniform which will be worn by around 4,500 Technical Officials during the London 2012 Games.
A group of young people from East Staffordshire are to take part in a new Olympic themed heritage project to research and record the history of sports and games in the UK during the last 60 years. Thanks to a £20,100 Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant awarded to ESCVS and Voluntary Services, 15 young people will plan, manage and deliver an intergenerational oral history project to explore the cultural and social heritage of sport and games.
