Dancing for the Games is a programme inspired by London 2012 that aims to get people across the West Midlands dancing
Dancing for the Games uses the inspiration of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to get as many people as possible dancing across the region. The programme is aimed at people of all ages, backgrounds, skills and abilities, and builds on the rich and diverse dance infrastructure that already exists in the West Midlands.
Dancing for the Games has been funded by Legacy Trust UK, an independent charity set up to help build a lasting cultural and sporting legacy from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The programme is also supported by Arts Council England and Advantage West Midlands. You can find out more about Dancing for the Games at www.dancingforthegames.co.uk.
Dancing for the Games activity runs until 2012. Following a bidding process that was open until July 2011, 27 projects have been commissioned. There are no more opportunities to apply for funding.
The commissioned projects are mainly focused on providing opportunities to people who don’t currently dance, but which also include large scale site specific dance and investment in the skills of dance leaders in the region. Some examples of commissioned projects are:
Dancefest, 12 Moves
12 Moves is a Worcestershire based dance project that is building from grassroots level activity to a high profile site specific performance that will combine video and live performance in Worcester city centre on 24 March 2012.
2Faced Dance, Hr1
2Faced Dance Company’s hr1 is a programme that brings together professional dance artists and the Herefordshire community through a variety of choreographic events and workshops leading to a large-scale torch lit spectacle at Castle Green in Hereford on 30 June 2012.
