This week the City of Birmingham Choir has launched a new website for its London 2012 inspired project, Equinox. On Saturday 17th March, at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall, over 350 performers will perform in this special choral concert that celebrates the cultural diversity of Birmingham and the West Midlands.
The concert will combine established choral groups, including City of Birmingham Choir, Black Voices and Echo Doliny Polish Folk Choir, with specially formed Indian and Chinese choirs. In addition there will be three percussion groups, one playing African djembe drums, and the other two from the Birmingham Schools’ Music Service playing dhol and a range of orchestral percussion.
The event will climax with all the choral groups and the percussion combining in the world premiere of a specially commissioned work, by award winning midlands composer Christopher Long, with text in Hindi, Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, Swahili, Polish and Latin chosen by the participating groups.
