New research shows impact of the Cultural Olympiad

15/04/2011

Park Live, Staffs - Open Weekend 2009

New research - PDF - 2mb has indicated that the Cultural Olympiad projects in the West Midlands are having an enduring effect on participants. Telephone interviews conducted with former participants found that just under a third (30%) had increased how often they participate in culture, and over a half (53%) had been inspired to do more regular exercise as a result of their involvement in projects.

The findings, published as part of the latest Cultural Olympiad in the West Midlands impact evaluation - PDF - 2mb, are particularly notable in the context of an area that has traditionally seen relatively low levels of participation in culture and sport compared to national averages.

In general, research contained in the forthcoming report - PDF - 2mb suggests that the programme has increased its momentum considerably since last autumn. The total audience for the programme now stands at 425,400 (an increase of 82,000 people compared to the figure reported in October 2010) and the volume and ‘value’ of media coverage has increased significantly following a series of high profile announcements.
