Your Games takes place in Staffordshire

Angling at the Staffordshire Children in Care Games on 17 July

Looked-after young people from across Staffordshire enjoyed an action packed day of sports and arts on Saturday 17 July.

The first annual Your Games took place at Rowley Park Stadium in Stafford and was open to all Staffordshire's looked after children aged eight to 16 and their families/carers.

Young people took part in angling, athletics, football, hockey, netball and rugby. In addition they could attend a photography workshop, have a go at making music or try out the Army's inflatable assault course.

Many of the sports governing bodies running the activities presented the young people with giveaways, including the Angling Development Board which provided angling whips for the budding young fishermen and women.

County Councillor Ian Parry, Deputy Leader and Lead Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said:  "It's been great to see so many young people coming together to enjoy themselves and experience a range of sports and activities.

"In Staffordshire we aim to engage young people in positive activities. The first Your Games has been a resounding success and I look forward to next year's event."

Your Games has been granted the Inspire Mark, the badge of the London 2012 Inspire Programme. The London 2012 Inspire programme recognises innovative and exceptional projects that are directly inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
