Imagineer Productions and BAFTA award-winning composer Ilona Sekacz are encourage more men to sign up to the already 30 strong Godiva Awakes Choir.
Over the weekend of 24 – 25 July 2010 almost 40 people with a passion for singing, from across the region, took part in an open audition to form part of the 100 strong choir which will perform in 2012 as part of the Godiva Awakes project.
Commissioned through Artists Taking the Lead, an exciting project forming part of London 2012’s Cultural Olympiad and funded by Arts Council England, Imagineer’s Godiva Awakes, is one of 12 commissions that will be realised across the UK over the next three years, each inspired by their location and celebrating the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In July 2012, Godiva will awake to a spectacular performance involving dancers, actors, aerialists, musicians, pyrotechnicians, carnivalists and young people in a procession marking the unveiling of this Lady Godiva for the modern age. Powered by 50 cyclists, Godiva will then journey to London to play a part in the London 2012 celebrations.
Talking about the Choir, Ilona Sekacz said: “The quality of people who participated in the open auditions was fantastic and I am delighted to have started building the Godiva Awakes Choir with so many of those who came along. We are still however looking for men to join the Choir and are asking men to get in touch if they are aged between 16 and 100 years and are interested in singing. No experience is necessary just an enthusiasm to join in.”
Claire Maddocks of Imagineer Productions said: “The choir is another way in which people in the West Midlands can get involved with the Godiva Awakes project. Through Godiva Awakes we will create a once in a lifetime opportunity for people of all backgrounds to engage in an ambitious project supporting and developing the skills of a new generation of makers, performers and event producers in the region.”
4 men, the youngest aged 20 and the oldest 63years, are already part of the Choir, any other men interested in finding out more should visit www.imagineerproductions.co.uk or contact the team on 0247 6992480.
