The fourth Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent 2012 Conference took place on Thursday 10 February 2011 at Chase Park - Cannock Cricket and Hockey Club.

The conference provided an opportunity for delegates to find out more about activity inspired by the 2012 Games taking place in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent and the work of partners Regionally and Nationally in developing a lasting legacy. Over 130 delegates attended to find out how they could get involved and how their organisations and communities in the sub-region could benefit.
The focus this year was on opportunities for people with disabilities and the expert speakers included:
Chris Holmes MBE—nine times Paralympic gold medallist and Director of Paralympic Integration for London 2012
David Moorcroft OBE—Olympian, former World Record Holder and Chair of the West Midlands Leadership Group for the 2012 Games
Barry Horne—Chief Executive of the English Federation of Disability Sport
Ian Marsden—aspiring Paralympic rifle shooter

One of the highlights of the day was a demonstration of Wheelchair Fencing by Adrian Derbyshire and Alan Sheriff of the Great Britain Paralympic Sabre Team and their coach John Townsend. In addition, Conference delegates heard from Sarah Gayton of Taste of the Moorlands who presented her innovative idea to use smartphone technology to get farmers and food producers recognised at London 2012 and you can view her collections of farmers films at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s50bZ3R0UqM. Mark Thornewill also spoke about the aspirations in Staffordshire for the Community Games programme.
